- Who it’s for
- New clients get their first month of monthly bookkeeping free on any plan — one free month per business.
- Which month is free
- The free month is the first calendar month we close for you, once your books are current enough to close. Catch-up for past months isn’t included; we quote it first.
- When billing starts
- Billing starts with month two at your plan’s price, billed monthly in advance in U.S. dollars. We email you at least 7 days before the first charge.
- Cancelling
- Cancel by email before month two and you owe nothing. After that, give 30 days’ notice by email. No long-term contract, no cancellation fee.
The rules we price by.
- If you grow past your plan
- If your volume grows past your plan, we tell you before anything changes. You can move up a plan or accept a written quote for the extra volume. There are no automatic overage charges.
- If your books are behind
- Behind on your books? We look at what’s missing and quote catch-up work as a fixed price before any work starts.
- If records arrive late
- Close days assume we have your statements and answers by business day 3 (business day 2 on Established). If something is late, the month waits as “Needs your input” and we tell you the new date.
- If you want it in writing
- Every quote, limit change and price change comes by email before it applies. Questions about a quote: hello@backplate.net.
Pricing questions.
How does the free first month work?
New clients get their first month of monthly bookkeeping free on any plan, one free month per business. It covers the first calendar month we close for you. Billing starts with month two at your plan’s price, billed monthly in advance, and we email you at least 7 days before the first charge. Cancel by email before month two and you owe nothing.
When does the free month start if my books are behind?
Once your books are current enough to close. If past months are missing or unreconciled, we quote that catch-up as a fixed price first. Catch-up isn’t part of the free month, and you decide whether to go ahead.
What counts as a transaction?
Each line on the bank, credit card and loan statements we reconcile in a month — deposits, payments, transfers and fees. Your plan’s limit is an average over the last three months, so one busy month won’t change your price.
What counts as an account?
Each bank account, credit card, loan or line of credit we reconcile. Payment processors such as Stripe, Square or PayPal count as accounts too.
What happens if I go over my plan’s limits?
We tell you before anything changes. You can move up a plan or accept a written quote for the extra volume. There are no automatic overage charges.
When will my books be closed each month?
By business day 10 on Essentials, 7 on Growth and 5 on Established, as long as we have your statements and answers by business day 3 (business day 2 on Established). If something is late, we tell you the new date.
Do I need QuickBooks Online or Xero?
Yes, we work in QuickBooks Online or Xero, in your own subscription. If you use something else today, tell us on the call and we’ll explain your options before you commit.
Do you do taxes or payroll?
No. We keep your books and work alongside your CPA or tax preparer and your payroll provider. At year-end we prepare a clean package for whoever files your taxes.
Can I cancel?
Yes. Cancel by email before month two and you owe nothing. After that, give 30 days’ notice by email. There’s no long-term contract or cancellation fee, and your books stay in your own accounting system.
Not sure which plan fits?
Tell us how many accounts you have and roughly how many transactions you run a month. We’ll recommend a plan on the call.
Free, on Google Meet. No obligation.
